Dr Parris Lyew-Ayee, Jr B.Sc., DPhil

Dr Parris Lyew-Ayee is the Director of the Mona GeoInformatics Institute at the University of the West Indies.

Dr Lyew-Ayee joined the Mona GeoInformatics Institute in November 2004. He holds a Bachelors degree with First Class Honours from the University of the West Indies in Earth Science, and his doctorate from the University of Oxford.

He is Chairman of the Water Resources Authority, and his other board appointments include the National Housing Trust, Management Control Systems, NEM Insurance Company, the Jamaica Conservation and Development Trust, and the Advisory Board of the National Works Agency. He is also a faculty member of the Department of Geography and Geology.

Dr Ava Maxam, B.Sc., PhD

Dr Ava Maxam joined the Mona Geoinformatics Institute in November 2006. She is completed PhD studies in Oceanography at the University of the West Indies where she also obtained a Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Zoology and Botany.

Her range of professional experience spans the environmental field, from 3D hydrodynamic modelling to environmental impact studies of Jamaica’s coastline. She currently manages the projects and programming units of MGI, as well as develops and coordinates GIS training for the institute.
